Singaravelu Chettiar is considered to be the voice of Communism from Madras during British rule . He is considered to be a great Personality among Freedom fighters for INDIA . He started his social life by his strong will to fight against untouchability,a social evil which had huge acceptance during those days. Professionaly he was a lawyer and practiced it in Madras High Court . Soon he got married . His marriage was a inspiration for all his followers as he got married to a woman of different caste ,which was unacceptable in terms of caste oriented society. In the struggle he declared himself as Budhist as Buddhists supports no Caste system.
He was prominent for labour movement in Madras . On 27 April 1918 he formed the first trade union of INDIA namely Madras Labour Union in British owned Mills . He was invited by Mahatma Gandhi in to lead Non-Cooperation movement with congress . . . During the time he called for harthaal and fought aggresively against the visit of Prince of Wales . Mahathma Gandhi was upset with the aggressive movement and intimation of same was given to Singaravelu . On the issue Singaravelu declared himself as a part of labour movement and justification for his deeds was appreciated by Communists like M N ROY .In 1925 he joined hands with the Communist movement in INDIA and became a founder of Communist Party of INDIA .
